How to wash a ski suit?

Washing ski clothing can be challenging and confusing due to the nature of the materials. It's crucial to follow the manufacturer's instructions, so don't cut off the label, which contains all the necessary information. Follow our tips to ensure your ski clothing stays clean and retains its properties even after washing.

How should I wash my ski clothes?

Ski clothing is waterproof and windproof. Maintaining these properties is crucial, so following the washing instructions for ski clothing is crucial. Of course, first and foremost, follow the manufacturer's instructions – you'll find them on the label.

How to care for the waterproof layer? Choose gentle detergents and avoid fabric softeners and stain removers, as they negatively impact the quality of the material. It's better to use soap flakes or dedicated products.

The washing temperature for sportswear is also crucial, as it shouldn't exceed 40°C. You don't need to use a professional laundry service – washing in an automatic washing machine will suffice. You can also hand wash your skiwear if you just want to freshen it up. However, avoid dry cleaning, as it can cause the seams to come undone or damage the material.

Drying ski clothes

All ski gear requires proper care, not only when washing but also when drying. You can choose from two options that work best:

  • putting laundry into the automatic dryer,

  • leaving ski clothes to dry on a dryer or hanger – but under no circumstances should you put ski clothes on a radiator or expose them to the sun, as this may damage the material.

How to wash a ski jacket?

Wondering how to properly wash ski jackets? Much depends on the type of material and filling. Also, remember to prepare your jacket for washing – either by hand or in the washing machine. First, check the pockets, then close all zippers, Velcro, and zips. Failure to do so increases the risk of damaging the jacket.

What about stained ski jackets? Before putting the clothes in the washing machine, hand-wash the stain—preferably with soap and lukewarm water. Now all you have to do is turn the ski jacket inside out and put it in the washing machine.

As mentioned, always wash both your ski jacket and pants according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This typically requires washing at temperatures between 30 and 60 degrees Celsius and a low spin setting.

Use a gentle wash cycle, natural soap, or special products to avoid damaging your ski jacket. If it's down-filled, put 3-4 tennis balls in the drum to fluff up the feathers and distribute them evenly.

Rules for washing thermal clothing

When washing your ski gear, don't forget to properly care for your thermal underwear. This is essential after any intense workout, long hike, or day on the ski slopes.

It's best to wash thermal clothing at a low temperature – around 30-40 degrees Celsius. Use gentle cleaning agents, such as dish soap or baby detergent. You can wash this type of underwear in the washing machine without any problems, just remember to use a gentle cycle. When it comes to drying, follow the same rules as for ski clothing.

How to waterproof technical and ski clothing?

When it comes to waterproofing ski clothing, consistency is key. It's best to waterproof your ski sportswear after every wash. This will help it retain all its properties and extend its lifespan. You'll easily recognize when waterproofing is necessary, as the waterproofing will decrease, causing water droplets to no longer roll off the surface of the fabric. Instead, they'll soak in. Depending on how often you use your clothing, this may be necessary 1-2 times per ski season.

What waterproofing products should you use for pants, jackets, and other items of clothing? Use a product specifically designed for ski wear. This will effectively restore the waterproof coating.

Also remember that you should not waterproof your new ski jacket or other items of clothing.

Ironing ski clothes – is it necessary?

Did you know that ironing is a crucial part of caring for synthetic skiwear? You should especially remember this if you dry your clothes traditionally. Ironing is essential to restore the fabric's water-repellent properties. The only important factor is how you dry your skiwear. How do you do it? Set your iron to the maximum temperature of 110°C or use the "synthetics" program. Place a towel on top of your jacket, pants, etc. Then quickly begin ironing.
