How to wash a woolen sweater?

Woolen clothing has many advantages, including excellent thermal insulation, skin protection, and exceptional softness. To maintain all of these properties, wool sweaters and other garments must be washed carefully.

Woolen sweaters - high-quality clothes that will last for years

A high-quality wool sweater is a high-end garment characterized by unique properties. Wool is one of those natural fabrics that we particularly value on colder days. Above all, it provides excellent protection against the cold.

Moreover, well-made wool is very soft to the touch, pleasant to the skin, and provides a high level of thermal insulation, while also preventing overheating because it is also vapor-permeable and allows the body to release excess heat. This means you don't sweat in woolen clothes while still feeling warm. Wool sweaters for women and men are popular not only with skiers, although they often wear this type of clothing.

How to care for woolen clothes?

For men's and women's wool sweaters to retain all their unique properties, they need proper care. This doesn't just mean hand-washing the sweaters, using gentle detergents, or ensuring the washing temperature for delicate fabrics is appropriately low. Above all, it's important to wash wool relatively infrequently. Washing wool too often, unfortunately, risks quickly losing its unique properties.

It's worth washing wool sweaters sensibly. A small stain may be sufficient to remove with a sponge and a mild detergent. Sometimes airing is enough to effectively refresh the sweater. Of course, this doesn't mean that these garments shouldn't be washed at all. The point is to do it only when absolutely necessary.

Washing wool - what should it look like?

There are really only two ways to wash women's wool ski jackets . First, you need to wash your wool sweater according to the manufacturer's instructions, which can be found on the label. Hand washing is usually recommended, but not always.

Sometimes, dry cleaning is the only option, and it's crucial to heed the manufacturer's advice, as hand washing can irreversibly damage the sweater and render it unusable. Wool is best washed by hand, provided the manufacturer even permits this.

At what temperature should I wash wool?

Wool should be washed primarily in cold water. Pay attention to the water temperature; it shouldn't exceed 35 degrees Celsius, as this can cause the fibers to shrink. In addition to water temperature, it's also important to choose the right detergent.

How to wash wool?

These types of delicate fabrics require specially selected detergents and powders. In fact, the best solution is to wash wool sweaters exclusively in detergents specifically designed for wool. The detergent dissolves well in cold water and doesn't settle on the fibers, making it easier to rinse out than powder. Special wool detergents additionally protect the fibers and prevent damage.

Rules for drying and washing wool

It's best to wash a linen sweater in lukewarm water, by hand, in a large bowl. Of course, this doesn't mean you should always forgo using the washing machine. Washing wool in the washing machine is acceptable, provided it has a special wool program. Drying is also important, not just washing the sweater. Above all, it's best to dry woolen clothes flat. Gently scrunch them to remove excess water, or you can squeeze the sweater in a towel, then lay it flat and let it dry.

We absolutely avoid wringing it out too much and don't hang it up in a dryer, as it may become unusable after drying. Professional drying equipment can also be used for wool. Sweaters can be tumble dried, again selecting the appropriate program. Not every dryer is suitable for drying a wool sweater, so sometimes it's better to dry it flat. This ensures that too high a drying temperature won't damage the delicate fibers of the material.
