What types of snowboards are there?

There are different types of snowboards, and each has its own unique characteristics. One of the most important factors to consider when purchasing a snowboard is its type. Different types of boards are designed for different types of riding and require different skill levels. This is because snowboarding is a very diverse sport and there are many different types of riders. The type of board you choose should depend on your specific style and needs.

Snowboard profile

A snowboard's profile is the shape of your board that can affect your performance on the slopes. Different types of profiles include:

  • Camber boards – These are shaped like a banana that has more camber than rocker or flat. They are great for beginners because they help riders learn to turn, carve, and stop quickly.
  • Rocker boards - They have less camber than camber boards, but more than flat boards.

How to care for snowboards?

Waxing your board is an important part of snowboard maintenance. You'll need a wax comb and some wax. You can buy these items at any good sporting goods store or online. Once you have them, follow these steps:

  • Clean all dirt and debris from the board with a damp cloth or towel (this will help the wax adhere better). Make sure there are no loose screws or nails in the base of the board; if there are, tighten them before continuing.
  • Spread some wax on one side of the bottom of the scraper that came with your kit. Then spread another layer on top of this first layer using another piece of cardboard—make sure not to apply too much at once.

The main purpose of wax is to make it easier for you to glide down the slopes. It's applied to the base of your board before or after riding, depending on the type of wax you're using and how much time you have.

You can buy different types of wax in stores or online, some better suited to certain riding conditions than others. Waxes also come in different colors. White is typically used when applying new coats over an existing base coat, while black is often used as a final coat before hitting the slopes.

What are snowboard bindings for?

Snowboard bindings are the components that connect your boots to your snowboard. There are two basic types: toe and heel. Toe bindings fit around the front of your boot, while heel bindings fit around the back of your boot. You need to make sure you buy a pair of snowboard bindings that suit your preferred riding style.

If you're new to snowboarding, we recommend starting with a beginner setup, such as a soft boot or an A/B flex board—these are ideal for newcomers because they offer plenty of support.

Once you're comfortable riding the slopes at slower speeds and doing basic tricks like 360s and 180s on groomed runs—and maybe even start practicing ollies off small jumps—it might be time to upgrade to something more advanced.

What are board cores?

  • Wood: The most traditional type of core, wood offers good energy transfer and flex.
  • Fiberglass: Similar to wood but with a stiffer ride, fiberglass provides stability in more rugged conditions.
  • Carbon Fiber: Stronger than wood and fiberglass, carbon fiber is lightweight and durable—it's the most popular choice among high-end boards because it offers an even balance of stiffness and flex that makes riding easier on the body when you're carving turns at high speeds or jumping off giant cliffs into freezing waterfalls.
  • Composite: This material combines two or more materials together to create the perfect blend of properties, its exact composition depends on what combination best suits your needs as a rider.

How to choose a snowboard?

When choosing a snowboard for yourself, you should pay attention to the following things:

  • Flex is the ability to bend and flex in response to force or impact. A softer flex will make the board more comfortable but won't be as stable on hard surfaces. A stiffer flex makes it easier to perform tricks and jumps, but can be uncomfortable when riding straight down hills or quickly through turns.
  • Size – Length determines how much leverage you have over your board, so longer boards are better for beginners because they're easier to control than shorter ones. However, if you're looking for speed, choose something shorter because there will be less drag while riding.

In our other blog post you will find information on how to choose the length of a snowboard .
